Hi, I'm Lucy and I'm the founder of Freckle Creative Learning

I began Freckle Creative Learning to meet the needs of young learners in Derby

From professional and personal experience, I saw the growing number of young people whose needs were not being met within mainstream education settings.

Freckle is a creative learning space specialising in teaching creative subjects to children and young people.  This can be delivered as 1 to 1 sessions or in small groups.

  • 1 to 1 learning is bespoke to individual's needs, with flexibility for 'child-led' projects

  • Small groups, max. of 4 learners, allowing for more attention, support and a quieter environment.

Young people have the opportunity to study an Arts Award course, leading to a recognised qualification accredited by Trinity College London.  In future, we plan to offer ASDAN Short Courses in Humanities based subjects.

Please see Tuition for more information on pricing and funding.

A little bit about me...

  • a primary school teacher of 20 years, passionate about Art, Textiles and nurturing creativity.

  • a qualified mentor to Autistic/ADHD University students.

  •  parent to a child with SEND

  • experience supporting children with anxiety, mutism, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and attendance difficulties.

      Why study textiles?

  • Textiles provides opportunities to develop Maths, English and fine motor skills

  • Current research highlights the mindful benefits of taking part in creative activities such as stitching.

  • For some neuro divergent people, the repetitive movements of knitting and sewing can be a relaxing 'stim'.

  • I have enhanced DBS and public liability insurance

  • Parents/Carers are welcome to stay on site or drop off and pick up
